The summit, being held at Expo 2020 Dubai, will host more than 4,000 individuals from 190 countries
Government officials and experts from around the world have convened in Dubai at the World Government Summit 2022 (WGS2022) to address some of the challenges currently facing humanity.
The WGS2022, held at Expo 2020 Dubai on March 29-30, will host more than 4,000 individuals from 190 countries. Leaders, senior government officials, heads of international organisations, and global experts will participate in sessions to discuss and highlight global challenges and their potential solutions. The sessions will also focus on future developments in various sectors and how best to leverage them to help build a sustainable world, official news agency WAM reported.
Held under the theme ‘Shaping Future Governments’, WGS2022 will host more than 110 sessions, in addition to 15 global forums that discuss the most prominent future trends. The list includes six new forums – the Global Metaverse Forum, the Global Crypto Forum, and the Cybersecurity in Aviation Forum. The inaugural Investopia Summit, the Arab Meeting for Youth Leaders and the Arab Government Administration Forum will also make their debut appearance. The other nine forums include the Climate Change Forum, the Global Health Forum, the Global Energy Forum, the SDGs in Action, the Women in Government Forum, the Government Services Forum, and the Gender Balance Forum, the Forbes 30 Under 30 Forum and the TIME 100 Gala.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said that the World Government Summit provides a platform to discuss new ideas and insights that can shape a better future for humankind. “The UAE is keen to share its development experience with other countries, as part of its constant endeavour to support initiatives aimed at advancing human prosperity.”
“Through the process of anticipating the future and enhancing readiness to navigate future change, governments can develop effective strategies and policies for sustainable growth and development. Being aware of what awaits us in the future enables us to develop more advanced systems that can accelerate progress.”
“The hopes of billions of people depend on the strategies, initiatives and proactive solutions provided by governments to face current and future challenges,” he noted.
The event’s agenda will also highlight eight main themes, which include Building Cities of the Future; Actioning Sustainability for Positive Impact; Exploring the Frontiers; Empowering Societal Resilience; Enabling the Future of Education and Work; Accelerating Global Economic Recovery; Policies that Drive Progress & Government Development; Designing the Future of Healthcare Systems.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, said: “The Summit brings together a large group of thought leaders and decision makers from across the world to discuss ideas that can shape a new future for government.”
The Crown Prince visited the pre-summit day of the WGS2022 on Monday, where he attended a session ‘The Long View: Lessons from Investment Leaders’ moderated by John Defterios. Sheikh Hamdan also attended the “Ministerial Session: The Arab Youth Ministers”.
Sheikh Hamdan further said, “The Summit reflects His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s vision to create dynamic government ecosystems with high innovative capabilities that can keep pace with change. The event seeks to bring to the fore new knowledge and insights on enhancing the ability of governments to implement sustainable development strategies that can help nations meet the aspirations of its people and create a bright future for current and future generations.”
Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Government Summit, said “The World Government Summit 2022 witnesses high-level international participation, which confirms its established global position as the largest global gathering of its kind in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. By coinciding with the conclusion of Expo 2020 Dubai, the most prominent global event in 2021 and 2022, WGS2022 will be a global laboratory for ideas and visions for the future of the world in the post-pandemic era.”
